The police chief is called on the phone and he puts his assistant Dicky in his place. The chief tells Dicky:

„Ask him to say about The Merchant of Venice.”

When the chief returns John was full of bruises, and the assistant Dicky reports proudly:

„Aye Sir ! He confessed ! He’s the smuggler of Venice !
