I really like animated movies, and short ones are a delicious cupcake for me.
So, today we have “Mr. Hublot”.
Mr. Hublot is a “withdrawn, idiosyncratic character with OCD, scared of change and the outside world.” As well characterized on IMDB. He reminds me in a way of Max from the animated movie “Mary and Max”.
In a parallel universe where everything is over-run by machines (like in the animated movie “9”), we can see him going on with his dull life in a flat across the street from an old abandoned warehouse that is for sale.
His life will turn for better when he sees from his window an abandoned mechanical dog screaming for help. That`s when he runs outside to save him, despite his fright of the outside world.
We can see that the dog is like a normal dog – a loving animal that grows with every day, even though he`s made of scrap metal.
Days pass by and he gets bigger and bigger, not having room to turn around in Mr. Hublot`s small flat.
Due to the fact that the dog`s movements are constrained by the furniture around him, thus breaking almost everything around, Mr. Hublot decides something that can we all relate to – buying the old abandoned warehouse to have more space for the new family member – the dog.
The friendship, loyalty and love between these two characters gives us hope for a better world inside the machinery around us all.
I highly recommend this short movie because while it will give you at the beginning a bitter taste, in the end you`ll find yourself having a better view and hope for humanity.
